Welcome to flyfishing . . . or to becoming a BETTER flyfisher !

Do you want to learn, in a one-to-one lesson:

  • What fly fishing is like?
  • How to start fly fishing safely and successfully?
  • How to adapt coarse fishing techniques for fly fishing?
  • How to cast further and better?
  • Other advanced tips and techniques to get your fly fishing beyond intermediate level?
  • How to adapt your fishing technique to chalkstream conditions?

Yes? Then we've got a course for you! Look at the course descriptions on our Courses page, then send in the enquiry form available from our Contact Us page.

The school operates in or near to a world-famous fly fishing area: the valley of the River Test, one of the classic English chalkstreams. Classes are held at attractive and well-stocked small lakes in the nearby countryside.

Jerry WakefordWe very much regret having to announce the recent death of School founder and former chief instructor Jerry Wakeford (left), a STANIC registered teacher with well over 30 years’ fly fishing experience and nearly 20 years’ instruction under his belt. In a sense Jerry was irreplaceable, but inevitably his passing will mean changes to the school management, and we will keep you informed about any new arrangements. We hold classes for all levels of expertise, from beginners to advanced, either one-on-one or in your own group if you prefer, and whoever teaches you will use the same successful methods that stood Jerry in good stead throughout his teaching career. We guarantee that you will leave as a better flyfisher than when you arrived!

If you're visiting this area for the first time, we can assure you that the central Test valley is a delightful part of Southern England. When you're not fishing there's plenty to do in the area, and there's no need for other family members to be bored. For example, just down the road is the charming old country town of Romsey, with accommodation, restaurants, a well-known mediaeval abbey church, and the famous Broadlands, family home of the late Lord Mountbatten of Burma. The historic cities of Winchester and Salisbury are also near at hand.
